Sonar Bangla- the 'Golden Bengal' started her journey towards centuries by touching the golden line of the golden jubilee of independence. Digital Bangladesh has experienced many ups and downs in an era since her digital journeys so far. The journey started when the undisputed leader of Bengalis- Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman emphasised paying due importance to science and technology immediately after the inception of independent Bangladesh. Under his able leadership, Bangladesh became a member of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in 1973. Syed Almas Kabir, President of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) considers this vision of Bangabandhu as the first step towards the advancement of the IT industry in Bangladesh. The ICT industry has grown in the last 12 years in the country. About 450 software companies in the country are now exporting software abroad. Where previously, there was no thought of exporting software even, Said Almas Kabir. In the last two years, women have moved forward in parallel with offline as well as online. They are also opting for a social media-based F-Commerce Platform. According to Nasima Akter Nisha, the founding president of the Women and E-Commerce Forum, women have to go a long way. The path of the BPO sector in the country started in 2009. Initially, there were 10 to 12 institutions but now it has grown to more than 160. As a result, the number of institutions in this sector is increasing along with the development of the country, along with the increase in employment, said Touhid Hossain, Secretary-General of the Bangladesh Association of Call Centers and Outsourcing. At present, the Internet is called the highway of development. Broadband internet has reached almost every place in the country. According to ISPAB, an organization of broadband internet service providers, low-cost broadband internet will soon reach the villages. The fundamental right of the digital world is that the sooner the Internet is made accessible to the masses, the stronger the foundation of the future will be. Life will be easier, inequality will be alleviated.
